A Lie

I was sitting next to this old dude on the bus home after work. He had been taking two seats in the mostly full bus when I got on, and he was a total bitch when I asked politely if he could move a little so I could sit down. But the total bitch recognized an entire bitch when he saw one, so move he did. It pissed me off that I gave him such joy when I opened my paper, but I certainly must have since he let out the most spontaneous and relieved "phwewww" I've ever heard. I felt a shiver of dread when I followed his cloudy, but still mean, eyes back to the headline.

I steeled myself and looked back from my now softly trembling paper to study his face. It was only then that I recognized my own dear grandpapa.

Nouveau Roman Sure Been Good to Me!

Dennis Cooper went to visit French nouveauist Alain Robbe-Grillet's, uh, CASTLE. Looks like the king wasn't home though. Yes, I am feeling Jalousie, and just plain lousie, over the news.

Whispered advice to Dennis: you might not want to entitle a post that consists solely of the fauxto-shopped pic of the George Bushes fishing in the floodwaters of New Orleans, We're off to Robbe-Grillet Castle. It rather undercuts the sense of noblesse-egrege you are intending to impart.

I like this joke better anyway:

What did George W. Bush say when he was asked his feelings about Roe V. Wade at a press conference?

"I don't really care how the people of New Orleans get out of town."
